Les Misérables is not a band or solo artist but a musical based on the 1862 novel by Victor Hugo. The music was composed by Claude-Michel Schönberg, with lyrics by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel (French), and later translated into English by Herbert Kretzmer. Premiering in 1980 in Paris and in 1985 in London, Les Misérables has become one of the longest-running and most beloved musicals in the world. The story follows ex-convict Jean Valjean as he seeks redemption while being pursued by Inspector Javert, set against the backdrop of post-revolutionary France. Famous songs include "I Dreamed a Dream," "On My Own," and "Do You Hear the People Sing?" It was also adapted into a successful 2012 film starring Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway.
