Blaze Foley was an American singer-songwriter and a key figure in the Texas outlaw country music scene. Born Michael David Fuller in 1949, he became known for his emotionally raw, heartfelt songwriting and lived a turbulent, unconventional life. Foley's songs, like “If I Could Only Fly” and “Clay Pigeons”, are noted for their poetic honesty and have been covered by artists such as Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, and John Prine. Despite his talent, he struggled with homelessness, addiction, and a lack of mainstream success during his lifetime. He was tragically shot and killed in 1989 at age 39. After his death, Foley gained a cult following, and his legacy grew through documentaries and tribute albums. His life inspired the 2018 film "Blaze", directed by Ethan Hawke.
