The Black Angels are an American psychedelic rock band from Austin, Texas, formed in 2004. Known for their dark, atmospheric sound influenced by 1960s psychedelia, their music features heavy reverb, droning guitars, and politically charged lyrics. The band's name is inspired by the Velvet Underground song "The Black Angel’s Death Song." They've released several acclaimed albums, including Passover (2006), Directions to See a Ghost (2008), and Indigo Meadow (2013). The Black Angels are also co-founders of the Austin Psych Fest (now Levitation), a major festival celebrating psychedelic music.
