Born on July 4, 1938, in Slab Fork, West Virginia, he rose to fame in the 1970s with hits like "Ain’t No Sunshine," "Lean on Me," "Lovely Day," and "Just the Two of Us." Withers' music was known for its emotional depth and simplicity, often drawing on his own life experiences. He won three Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015.
