THE PUSHER
Words and music by Hoyt Axton
This is a relatively simple song. Listen to the track to get the right rhythm. I find it
easiest when learning a new song to find and follow a pattern that I'm comfortable with.
When I've got the hang of singing and playing, I can add the nuances. I play it in bar
chords to keep the pattern and allow me to think of the other stuff I need to do. So,
here is The Pusher played in a standard "blues box." Let someone with more skill offer
up the chops and lead work.
Intro is G.C.Dm.C...(x6)
Vocals come in at the end of the progression, emphasis on (G) "smoked..."
Turn-around follows the same cadence with a new progression... C.F.Gm.F.
Verse 1
...C G C Dm
You know I've smoked a lot of grass
...C G C Dm C
O' Lord, I've popped a lot of pills
GBut I never touched nothin' C Dm C
Chorus
G.C.Dm.C... G.C.Dm.C...
God damn, The Pusher
(same chords)
God damn, I say The Pusher
... G C Dm C G(downstroke) C(d-s) Dm (d-s)
I said God damn, God damn The Pusher man
I submitted this previously(by accident), before it was complete. I've asked for it to
be removed. If that doesn't happen, sorry for the duplicate.
