TITLE: Cats in the Cradle
This is a really good song, i heard it on the radio a few years ago,
and when i took up guitar last year i really wanted to learn it.
Here goes:
EMy child arrived just the oDther day
GHe came to earth in the Ausual way
But there were Eplanes to catch, and Dgames to play
He Glearned to walk while Ai was away
And he was Dtalking 'fore you knew it, and as he grew
He said &qAuot;I'm gGonna be lEike you, dad. AYou know i'm gGonna be lEike you."
CHORUS:
And the ECats in the cradle and the Dsilver spoon
GLittle boy blue and the Aman in the moon
EWhen ya coming home dad, i Ddont know when
But Awe'll get toGgether Ethen, yeah, you Aknow we'll have a gGood time tEhen.
The Chord progression along the verse and the chorus stays the same,
so here are the rest of the lyrics:
Verse 2:
My boy turned ten just the other day
he said "thanks for the ball, dad. Come on lets play
Can you teach me to throw'" I said "Not today
I've got a lot to do." He said, "that's okay."
And i walked away, but his smile never dimmed
He said "I'm gonna be like him, yeah. You know i'm gonna be like him."
CHORUS
Verse 3:
Well, he came from college just the other day,
So much like a man I just had to say,
Son, I'm proud of you. Can you sit for a while
He shook his head, and he said with a smile,
What I'd really like, dad, is to borrow the car keys.
See you later. Can I have them please
CHORUS
Verse 4:
Well I've long since retired my son's moved away.
I called him up just the other day.
I said, I'd like to see you if you don't mind.
He said, I'd love to, dad, if I could find the time.
You see my new job's a hassle, and the kid's got the flu,
But it's sure nice talking to you, dad.
It's been sure nice talking to you.
And as I hung up the phone, it occurred to me,
He'd grown up just like me.
My boy was just like me.
CHORUS
I end the song with by slowing down and picking out the last "E"
Chord one note at a time. Enjoy!
