GI said, "Hold it, DocC, a World War passed through my brain."
DHe said, "Nurse, get your pad, the boy's insane,"
GHe grabbed my arm, CI said "Ouch!"
As I lDanded on the psychiatric couch,
He said, G"Tell me about it."

GWell, the whole thing started at C3 o'clock fast,
It wasD all over by quarter past.

GWell, I seen your CadillacC window uptown
DAnd there was nobody aroun',
GI got into the Cdriver's seat
And I Ddrove down 42nd Street G

GWell, I remember seein' some Cad,
So I Dturned on my Conelrad.
But I Gdidn't pay the CCon Ed bill,
So the Dradio didn't work so well. G
Turned on my Crecord player
It was Rock-A-Day, Johnny siDngin',
"Tell Your Ma, Tell Your Pa,
Our Loves A-Gonna Grow Ooh-wah, Ooh-wah."

I was Gfeelin' kinda Clonesome and blue,
I needed Dsomebody to talk to.
So I Gcalled up the operCator of time
DJust to hear a voice of some kind. G C
"When you hear the beep
It will be three o'clock,&quDot;
She said that for over an hour
And I hung up.

GWell, the doctor interrupted me Cjust about then,
SayinD, "Hey I've been havin' the same old dreams,
GBut mine was a little different yCou see.
I dreamt the onlyD person left after the war was me. G
I didn't see you around."
harmonica:
C, D, G
Well, Gnow time passed and Cnow it seems
DEverybody's having them dreams.
GEverybody Csees themselves Dwalkin' around with no one else. G C
Half of the people can be part right all of the time,
DSome of the people can be all right part of the time.
But all of the people can't be all right all of the time.
I think Abraham Lincoln said that. G C
"I'll let you be in my dreams if I can be in yours,"
I said that.
