Subject: CHANGING OF THE GUARDS by Bob Dylan
Intro: Ab
Sixteen Fmyears,
SixteenAb banners uEbnited over the Fmfields
While the Dbgood shepherd Ebgrieves
Desperate Fmmen, despeAbrate women dEbivided,
Spreading their Fmwings 'neath the DbfalEbling Ableaves.
Fortune Fmcalls.
I steppeAbd forth from the Ebshadows, to the marketFmplace,
Merchants and Dbthieves, hungry for Ebpower, my last deal gone Fmdown.
She's smellingAb sweet like the Ebmeadows where she was Fmborn,
On midsummer's Dbeve, Ebnear the tAbower.
(Interlude)
The cold-blooded Fmmoon.
The captain Abwaits above the celeEbbration
Sending his Fmthoughts to a Dbbeloved Ebmaid
Whose ebony Fmface is beyondAb communiEbcation.
The captain is Fmdown but still believing that his Dblove will Ebbe repaiAbd.
They shaved her Fmhead.
She was torn between AbJupiter and ApolEblo.
A messenger Fmarrived with a Dbblack nightinEbgale.
I seen her on the Fmstairs and IAb couldn't help but Ebfollow,
Follow her Fmdown past the fountain where they DblifEbted her Abveil.
(Interlude)
I stumbled to my Fmfeet.
I rode past Abdestruction in the Ebditches
With the Fmstitches still mending 'neath a Dbheart-shaped tatEbtoo.
Renegade Fmpriests and Abtreacherous young witEbches
Were Fmhanding out the flowers that I'dDb givEben to Abyou.
The palace of Fmmirrors
Where dog Absoldiers are reEbflected,
The endless Fmroad and the Dbwailing of Ebchimes,
The empty Fmrooms where her Abmemory is proEbtected,
Where the Fmangels' voices whisper to the Dbsouls of Ebprevious tiAbmes.
(Interlude)
She wakes him Fmup
Forty-eight hours Ablater, the sun is Ebbreaking
Near broken Fmchains, mountain laDburel and rolling Ebrocks.
She's begging to Fmknow what measAbures he now will be Ebtaking
He's pulling her Fmdown and she's clutching on to hiDbs long Ebgolden lAbocks.
Gentlemen, he Fmsaid,
I don't Abneed your organiEbzation, I've shined your Fmshoes,
I've moved your Dbmountains and marked your Ebcards
But Eden is burFmning, either get bravAbe for elimiEbnation
Or else your hFmearts must have the courage for the Dbchanging Ebof the gAbuards.
(Interlude)
Peace will Fmcome
With tranAbquility and Ebsplendor on the wheels of Fmfire
But will Dboffer no reEbward when her false idols Fmfall
And Abcruel death surEbrenders with its Fmpale ghost retreating
Between the DbKing and the EbQueen of SwoAbrds.

The "Interlude" (that the sax plays) is:
Ab Eb Db Ab
E -6-8-9-8-8~----6-6~----4-4~--(repeat 3 times)---||-6p4-4---4~--||
B ------------------------------------------------||-------6-----||
G ------------------------------------------------||-------------||
D ------------------------------------------------||-------------||
A ------------------------------------------------||-------------||
E ------------------------------------------------||-------------||
One word of note: It is much easier to play this song with a capo on the
first fret (i.e. play Em G D Em C D... while the 1st fret is fretted). This
makes it more easier and does not make the guitar sound too choppy.
