Sly & The Family Stone was a groundbreaking American band formed in 1966 by Sly Stone. They are best known for pioneering a fusion of funk, soul, rock, and psychedelic music, and for being one of the first major American bands to have a racially integrated and gender-diverse lineup. Their energetic and socially conscious music had a big influence on later artists. Hits like "Everyday People," "Dance to the Music," and "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)" made them famous in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Their album "There's a Riot Goin' On" (1971) is considered a classic. The band helped shape modern pop, funk, and hip-hop, and they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.
