Shellac was an American noise rock band formed in 1992 by guitarist Steve Albini, bassist Bob Weston, and drummer Todd Trainer. Known for their raw, minimalist sound and precise musicianship, Shellac emphasized analog recording techniques and a stripped-down, powerful live presence. The band was influential in underground and post-hardcore music scenes, releasing several critically acclaimed albums marked by abrasive guitar work, complex rhythms, and sharp, often sardonic lyrics. They remained fiercely independent throughout their career, with a strong DIY ethic and infrequent but memorable live performances.
