Rent is not a band or traditional music artist, but rather a rock musical created by Jonathan Larson. Premiering in 1996, Rent is based on Puccini’s opera La Bohème and tells the story of a group of young artists and friends struggling with life, love, and the impact of HIV/AIDS in New York City's East Village. The musical became a cultural phenomenon thanks to its raw emotion, diverse characters, and powerful rock-influenced soundtrack. It won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Musical.
