Renft, also known as Klaus Renft Combo, was a prominent rock band from East Germany (GDR), originally formed in the 1960s. The group became known for its poetic, socially critical lyrics and blues-influenced rock sound. Renft was especially influential among young people in East Germany, often addressing taboo topics such as freedom and oppression. Due to their critical stance toward the GDR regime, the band was banned by the authorities in 1975. Despite this, Renft's music continued to resonate with fans, and the group later reunited after the fall of the Berlin Wall. They are considered pioneers of German-language rock music.
