Mazzy Star is an American alternative rock band formed in Santa Monica, California, in 1988. The band is best known for its dreamy, melancholic sound that blends elements of psychedelic rock, folk, and shoegaze. Their most famous song is “Fade Into You” (1993), a haunting ballad that became a hit in the U.S. and remains their signature track. The group is led by vocalist Hope Sandoval, known for her soft, ethereal voice, and guitarist David Roback, who was instrumental in crafting the band's atmospheric sound. Mazzy Star released several albums, including She Hangs Brightly (1990), So Tonight That I Might See (1993), and Among My Swan (1996). After a long hiatus, they returned with Seasons of Your Day in 2013. David Roback passed away in 2020. Mazzy Star is often associated with the '90s dream pop and alternative scene and has influenced many artists with their distinctive mood and style.
