The Mars Volta was an American progressive rock band known for their experimental style, complex compositions, and energetic live performances. Formed in 2001 by Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodríguez-López after the breakup of their previous band, At the Drive-In, The Mars Volta blended elements of rock, jazz, Latin, and psychedelic music. The band gained a cult following for their ambitious concept albums and unconventional approach to songwriting. Though they disbanded in 2012, they reunited in 2022, continuing to evolve their sound while staying true to their experimental roots.
