Ludger Edelkötter (1940–2022) was a German composer, educator, and publisher, renowned for his contributions to contemporary Christian music. Born in Bockum-Hövel, Germany, Edelkötter studied oboe and flute before dedicating himself to composing new spiritual songs. He was instrumental in the "new spiritual song" movement, which sought to modernize church music by integrating elements of popular music. His compositions often featured simple melodies and rhythms, making them accessible for congregational singing. Notably, his canon "Herr, gib uns deinen Frieden" (Lord, give us your peace) was included in the Protestant hymnal Evangelisches Gesangbuch.
