Janis Joplin was an American rock, soul, and blues singer known for her powerful, raw voice and electric stage presence. Born in 1943 in Texas, she rose to fame in the late 1960s as the lead singer of Big Brother and the Holding Company before launching a successful solo career. Joplin was a key figure in the counterculture movement and became one of the most iconic performers of her time. Her hits include "Piece of My Heart," "Cry Baby," and "Me and Bobby McGee." She died tragically young in 1970 at age 27, becoming part of the "27 Club."
