James Rowe (1865–1933) was a prolific English-American hymn writer and lyricist, renowned for penning over 9,000 hymns, poems, and other works. Born in Horrabridge, Devonshire, England, he emigrated to the United States in 1889. Initially, he worked in various roles, including for the Irish government and later in the railroad industry in New York. In the early 1890s, he began writing hymns and collaborated with composer Howard E. Smith on several notable pieces. In his later years, Rowe moved to Vermont to live with his daughter, an artist, where they co-wrote verses for greeting card publishers.
