Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes were an American soul and R&B group, best known for their smooth vocal harmonies and emotional ballads. Formed in Philadelphia in the 1950s, the group rose to fame in the 1970s as part of the Philly soul movement. They were one of the original acts on Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff’s Philadelphia International Records. The group was led by Harold Melvin, but their most famous lead singer was Teddy Pendergrass, whose powerful vocals helped define their sound. Known for socially conscious lyrics and lush arrangements, they left a lasting impact on soul and R&B music.
