Chairmen of the Board is an American soul music group, originally formed in Detroit in 1967. Known for their smooth harmonies and strong blend of Motown and funk influences, the group gained popularity in the 1970s. They were one of the first acts signed to Holland-Dozier-Holland’s Invictus label after the songwriting trio left Motown. Led by General Johnson, whose distinctive voice defined much of their sound, Chairmen of the Board became a key part of the soul and beach music scenes, especially in the southeastern United States. The group has undergone lineup changes over the years but continues to perform and record.
