One of the best songs on the album, even though it took a month or so to grow on me. It's a simple strumming pattern so it's easy to play and sing along to, although it's pretty much guaranteed to bring everyone around you down. Notes on the chords: "D, D2" --> play a D and on the second strum drop the high F# to an open E During the verse, the A is a bar chord on the fifth fret of the low E string. During the chorus, the chords are all bar chords with the following bass roots: D --> 10th fret of low E A --> 7th fret of G C#m --> 9th fret of low E F#m --> 9th fret of A Intro F#m Verse 1 F#m D, D2 Your baby and wife took a walk on the beach on a Saturday
A By MC#monday pictures dressed in bold font F#m D, D2 The only thing that inspired you was the everyday, A And that’s thC#me only thing that they didn’t want. F#m D, D2 The green lights your way, who does it illuminate? AHow many mC#men reside in your face? F#m D, D2 And which one got everything you wanted? When allA the world’s a stage, doesC#m everything seem worthless and fake? F#m D, D2
'Cause I've seen you live Aso many lives. F#m D, D2 Oh, adopted a guise that put you under these lights, what a cruel design,A that I sC#maw you more than most of my friends F#m D, D2 A Now tears roll down cheeks from eyes of suspended disbelief To C#mwatch a special news bulletin F#m D, D2
Saying, "I've seen yoAu live so many lives. Oh whC#mat's one more? F#m D, D2
Why won't you riseA from the grave like you dC#mone before?" Chorus
'Cause tDhey only wanted to see A if your eyeC#ms shine like in the films ofF#m you 'Cause tDhey only want to believeA that they knC#mew you well themselves F#m Oh but of course tDhey don't look like that A That took seC#mven hours of make-up and a sF#mpecial lens cap
F#mOh... Verse 2
Confidants' confidence dies, tongues cluck and tears dry How are you surprised? That nameless sadness lives for all time 'Cause drinks don't stay cold and smoke leaves ash like a soul and clouds all the voices of safety I thought for a moment, yeah, maybe I was alone Just to feel an ounce of regret But that didn't occur once to the lunch ladies They had a cup of tea and a cigarette They didn't waste any precious time saying kind things 'Cause the whole appeal is to rely on the face of things Chorus
D'Cause they only wanted Ato see if your eyeC#ms shine like in the films ofF#m you 'Cause tDhey only want to believeA that they knC#mew you well themselves F#m Oh but of course tDhey don't look like that A That took seC#mven hours of make-up and a sF#mpecial lens cap
On certain daDys it's hard to remember Athat C#m [hold] Even for you
I hope you rest well A F#m C#m D
