Tuning: E A D G B E
Song: With or without you - Acoustic
Artist: U2
Composers: U2
Album: The Joshua tree
Tabbed by DJ
7th Aug 2015
An interesting way to get lots of open strings ringing on an acoustic guitar
and still maintain that bass progression. The chords can either be strummed or picked.
From Verse 3 onwards, if you have another guitarist the riff on the G5 could be added.
OPEN TUNING: D-A-D-A-A-D
Tune bottom E string down to D
Tune G string up to A (Take care tuning up,old strings might not take it too well)
Tune B string down to A
Tune top E string down to D
A chromatic tuner can be helpful to check the notes.
PLEASE IGNORE ANY POP-UP CHORD BOXES that the website might suggest,
and use the chord shapes shown below:
D5 = 050000
Asus4 = x02000
Bm7 = x24000
Gsus2 = 555000
G5 = x x x 10 10 12
If, like me, you find the original key is still too high to sing the very
high notes, drop the tuning down another whole tone to C-G-C-G-G-C. The chord
shapes are exactly the same, but will sound as C5 - Gsus4 - Am7 - Fsus2,
and as an F5 for that high riff chord.
You will need to take more care not to play too heavily, particularly on the
bottom string, as they are a lot slacker, and it may need a bit more fine tuning
more often to keep all the strings in pitch.
N.B.
I wouldn't recommend the lower tuning if you're using very light gauge strings.
