Sympathy For The Devil - The Rolling Stones Tabbed by: Le Petomane Other Bass tabs pretty much have the song covered, but for the "main riff", I am absolutely positive that this is how it is being played. The difference is utilizing the open "A" string rather than trying to alternate rapidly between the A and E strings at the 7th and 5 frets (I definitely hear the "A" note during the E chord, not the B note). It is much cleaner and easier to keep up for the entire song. On the recording he is using a pick. I play with my fingers but I do find it easier to do this with a pick. Main riff: (E Chord) (D Chord) (A Chord) (E Chord) G|----------------------|----------------------|-----------------|----------------------| D|----------------------|----------------------|-----------------|----------------------| A|7-7-7-0-7-7-0-7P0-7P0-|5-5-5-0-5-5-0-5P0-5P0-|4-4-0-0-0-4--5-6-|7-7-7-0-7-7-0-7P0-7P0-| E|----------------------|----------------------|-----------------|----------------------| I also play the "B" note during the B chord (....pleased to meet you...) on the A string second fret, randomly lifting off and playing the occasional open A....basically I play most of the song on the A string, but I randomly mix it up with the fingerings as shown in the other bass tabs. | / slide up | \ slide down | h hammer-on | p pull-off | ~ vibrato | + harmonic | x Mute note ===============================================================================
