I'm not sure if this is really how they play it, but I think it sounds better and it's a
lot easier.
The First two verses are played with the riff/picking, and then I usually strum the last
verse. I'll put the
chords for that down below.
Tuning:DADF#AD
Intro/Verse Riff:
D|------0--------0------0--------0------0--------0------0---------0----------|
A|----0--------0------0--------0------0--------0------0---------0------------|
F#|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
D|--0------2h4------0------2h4-------------2h4-------------------------------| X4
A|----------------------------------2---------------2-------2p0--------------|
D|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
Start Lyrics 3rd time.
D|------0--------0------0--------0------0--------0------0---------0----------|
A|----0--------0------0--------0------0--------0------0---------0------------|
F#|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
D|--0------2h4------0------2h4-------------0h2--------------0h2--------------|
A|----------------------------------0---------------0------------------------|
D|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
D|------0--------0------0--------0------0--------0------0---------0----------|
A|----0--------0------0--------0------0--------0------0---------0------------|
F#|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
D|---------2h4-------------2h4----(5)------2h4----2p0-------2h4--------------| X2
A|--2---------------2--------------------------------------------------------|
D|--------------------------------(5)----------------------------------------|
^You can choose whichever note to hit here, they're
the same,
just an octave apart. I find that the higher one is easier.
D|------0--------0------0--------0------0--------0------0---------0----------|
A|----0--------0------0--------0------0--------0------0---------0------------|
F#|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
D|---------2h4-------------2h4-------------0h2--------------0h2--------------|
A|--2---------------2---------------0---------------0------------------------|
D|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|

Intro: Play the First line of the riff twice.
Verse 1: (Play the Riff for this verse, starting on the 3rd time through on the first line.)
Well It's a long way out to reach the sea
But I'm sure I'll find you waitin' there for me
And by the time I blink I'll see your wul arms swingin'
Just to meet me in the middle of the road
And you'll hold me like you'll never let me go
And beside the salty water water I could hold you close
But you are far too beautiful to love me
Verse 2: (Play the riff for this verse as well, starting the third time through on the
first line.)
Well it's a long haul up the dusty mountain,
I'll build a turran tall enough to keep you out
But when you wage your wars against the one who adores you,
Then you'll never know the treasure that you're worth
But I've got holes in my pockets burned by liars' gold
But I think I'm far too poor for you to want me
(Play the entire riff as an instrumental, then we'll start strumming chords.)
Verse 3:
D Bm

D A
Bm G
D It's been a long road losing all I've Bmowned
D You don't know what you've got 'til you're Bmgone
D It's a nasty habit spending Aall you have
But if you're the one Bmdoing all the leaving then it's Gnever your love lost
And if you Bmleave before the start then there was Gnever love at all
And heaven Bmknows I'm prone to leave the only GGod I should have loved
(Play the first line of the riff for this line)
And yet you're far too beautiful to leave me
