This Song Was First Published In A Book By A Man Named Rex Clements Called “Manavalins: A Muster Of Sea-Songs As Distinguished From Shanties, Written For The Most Part By Seamen And Sung On Board Ship During The Closing Years Of The Age Of Sail. 1890-1920. It Was Published In 1927 And Is Supposedly A Collection Of Sea Songs From 1890-1920. Paddy West Is Described In The Book As Being A Sort Of Folk Take Among Sailors Of The Time, With No Way To Tell If Paddy West Was A Real Person. As Rex Clements States,“All Sailors Are Familiar, At Least By Name,With That Heroic Figure Of The Days Of Crimping” (Clements, 94). The Longest Johns Released This Cover On Their New Album “Voyage” And I Believe They Have Done It Plenty Of Justice. If You Have Any Questions About The Song Or The Book, Please Send Me A Message. Thanks! [Intro] D A D A D [Verse One]
