The Long and Winding Road
Recorded by The Beatles. Written by Paul McCartney.
From the 2003 CD "Let It Be...Naked"
Paul McCartney claimed that his long-standing dissatisfaction with the 1970 Phil Spector-produced album
"Let It Be" was the reason he released the George Martin-produced version of the album in 2003. The new
album included an alternate take of "The Long and Winding Road" with no strings or other added
instrumentation beyond that which was played in the studio at the time. It was closer to the Beatles'
original intention than the 1970 version. This take is also the one seen in the film "Let It Be" and
on the Beatles' 2015 video compilation.
I think this is the only chord chart for this song posted here which uses an Em7 at the signature
syncopated break at the end of the first line of each verse. Most other charts use a G major chord,
or a G/A chord both of which I believe to be in error. Try all three chords and decide for yourself.
Capo: 1

[Verse 2]
[Bridge]
[Verse 3]
[Break]
| D G | F#m - Em7 A | D G | F#m - Em7 A |

FYI: My chord charts are not "tabs" (guides to replicating an artist's past performance).
I don't claim any of my charts show the "right" way to play a song. This chord chart
represents my personal interpretation of this song. And as such, it's not something I
care to debate. It's a road map for my own, and maybe your own future performances.
If you have another way to play this song, great. Please, post your own chart.
We all benefit when someone contributes. Cheers! Dexex
