Title: "Long Black Veil"
Artist: the Band
Album: Music from Big Pink
I'm pretty sure that this isn't in the same key as the one on the record, but it's easier for me to sing
with this key for some reason. I think this is a folk song; it was written by Marijohn Wilkin and Danny
An Irish band called the Cheftains do a really great version of this same song with Mick Jagger doing the lead vocals.
"Long Black Veil" by the Band
ETen years ago on a cold dark night
There was Bsomeone killed 'neath the Amtown hall Elight
EThere were few at the scene and they all did agree
ThaBt the man who ran looAmked a lotE like me.
EThe judge said, "Son, what is your alibi?
If youB were somewhere elseAm then you won't haEve to die."
EI said not a word though it meant my life,
I had Bbeen in the arms of my Ambest friend's Ewife.
AmShe walks these Ehills Amin a long black Eveil.
AmShe visits my grEave Amwhen the night winds Ewail.
ENobody knows, no, and Amnobody Esees; Enobody Bknows but Amme.
EThe scaffold was high and eternity near
She Bstood in thAme crowd anEd shed not a tear
EBut sometimes at night when the cold wind moans
In a Blong black veil she Amcries over my Ebones.
She walks these hills in a long black veil
She visits my grave where the night winds wail.
Nobody knows, no, and nobody sees; nobody knows but me.
