HERO OF WAR
by Rise Against
Tabbed by ssjEasterBunny

NOTES:
This tab is designed for one guitar; it is exactly what Tim McIlrath plays when the band
the song live. It’s also what he’s seen playing in the music video. So rest assured,
tab will have you playing the song just like you’ve seen it and heard it!
Keep in mind, the first half of the RECORDED bridge (the palm-muted part) uses the same
as the rest of the song, while the LIVE version uses modified chords. I tabbed the
chords
’cause it’s more interesting.
I personally like to move the intro riff down the neck onto the first fret, but I’ll tab
how McIlrath plays it for those who want to be exact.

He said, &Fquot;Son,
Have you seen the Amworld?
Well, what would you A#say
If I said that you Fcould?
Just carry this A#gun; you'll even get Fpaid."
I said, "That sounds prCetty good."
Black leather Fboots,
Spit-shined so Ambright
They cut off my A#hair, but it looks alFright.
We marched and we A#sang;
We all became Ffriends,
As we learned how to Cfight.
A hero of Dmwar,
Yeah that's what I'll A#be.
And when I come Fhome,
They'll be damn proud of Cme.
I'll carry this Dmflag
To the A#grave if I must.
’Cause it's a Fflag that I love,
And a flag that I Ctrust.
I kicked in the Fdoor.
I yelled my comAmmands.
The children, they A#cried,
But I got my Fman.
We took him aA#way,
A bag over his facFe,
From his family, his Cfriends.
They took off his Fclothes.
They pissed in his Amhands.
I told them to A#stop,
But then I joineFd in.
We beat him with A#guns
And batons not just Fonce,
But again and aCgain.
A hero of Dmwar,
Yeah that's what I'll A#be.
And when I come Fhome,
They'll be damn proud of Cme.
I'll carry this Dmflag
To the A#grave if I must.
’Cause it's a Fflag that I love,
And a flag that I Ctrust.

NOTE:
(Palm-mute the chords until the C chord kicks back in.)
She Fsuswalked through bullets and Am7haze.
A#VI
I asked her to stop;
I begged her to F5stay.
A#VI
But she pressed on,
So I lifted my F5gun,
And I fired aCway...
And the Fshells jumped through the Amsmoke
And into the A#sand
That the blood had now Fsoaked.
She colA#lapsed with a flag in her Fhand;
A flag white as Csnow...
A hero of Dmwar,
Is that what they A#see?
Just medals and Fscars;
So damn proud of Cme.
And I brought home that Dmflag.
Now it gathers A#dust.
But it's the flag that I Flove;
It's the only flag I Ctrust.
He said, &Fquot;Son,
Have you seen the Amworld?
Well, what would you A#say
If I said that you Fcould?
NOTE:
Fear not if you have a hard time picking out the individual notes in the outro; McIlrath
pulls a “the hell with it” and strums them like in the verse.
Enjoy!
