After paul sings "Valentines" the riff is just D A G, hit D with the counting like: D A G (I hope that's clear, you should be able to get the exact strum 1 2 + 3 + 4 + from the record, with the accents) (second verse, pre-chorus, and chorus the same guitar part) You pop up in some place, so sick and so refined Are you strung out on some face, well I know it ain't mine If you were a pill, I'd take a handful at my will, and knock you back with something sweet and strong. The outro, apparently one of Westerberg's favorite songwriting tools(Think "Kiss Me On The Bus") is just straight eighth note strums, like so: D A G 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + The main riff, if you want to get fancy, when you play A hammer on then pull off to the 6th(E).
