[Verse]
CI was siitin in the celler with a trouble makin fella We used to call Dennis the menacFe Gtwo young boys In normal Illinois Barley had a couple bucks left between usC CWhen the barman told us last call Well we weren’t about to put up a figFht GWe got up off our chairs and we climbed them stairs Made our way out into tChe night
[Verse]
CIt was 2 am as we walked on back to join some friends at the hoFuse GThe town was dead and the streets were still - Too quiet for even a mouse C CThat’s when Dennis came up with this bad idea as he peered acroFss the street GSaw a clock on top of the laundomat building and I knew he wouldn’t be disCcreet
[Verse]
CThe menace said I’ll bet ya my next beer - That I can take this rFock Gand bury it right here from this distance in the center of that old clock C CWell he was certain that he’d made all the proper calculations to accoFmplish this amazing feat GBut the beer must have flooded that mental calculator Cuz his aim was off bCy 10 feet
[Verse]
CAnd instead of harmlessly hitting that clock because his aim waFs so damn low GThat rock that he threw with such abandon Smashed the laundromat’s picture Cwindow CWell before the broken glass had landed sirens were blaring thoFugh town GI guess the cops musta followed us outta the bar - and now the chase was onC
[Verse]
CWe ran about a block when we came upon a party going on in someonFe’s yard GSo We ducked right in and tried to blend which wasn’t really all that hard C CBut the law boys weren’t givin up so quick and they kept on trackin us Fdown GAnd it wasn’t very long ‘fore they were upon us and had the menace pinned tCo the ground
[Verse]
CWell I saw that and kept on runnin - when I heard someone yell FrFeeze GBut there was no way that I was takin that advise and ran toward some busheCs and trees CWhen I came out on the other side I was in a car filled parking Flot GThought I’ll just hide under one of these baby’s - until things aint so hotC
[Verse]
CSo l tried to slide underneath a car like I’d seen done on TV F GWhen I came to find the hard way - the tv shows were lying to me C CI pushed my way up under that car - I was wedged like a damn door stop F GBut no matter how I tried I could only get one side - hidden from the cops C
[Verse]
CSo there I lay half exposed in that embarrassing positiFon GPraying that God would get me out of this when across my field of visCion CWalked two sets of shoes slowly - on the other side of the cFar GOld Dennis was being taken to his room behind the barCs
[Verse]
CMe I laid their quietly half expecting to be caFught GHalf exposed from half my head down to half of my tCoes CBut in just a short time the cars pulled away and the radios were goFne GThank you Lord for letting me dodge that bullet and giving me this Csong
[Verse]
CI’m sure there’s lots of morals this story - coFuld benefit your life GLike bad company will corrupt you especially after Cmid night CBut the biggest thing I guess I learned my biggest take away F GIs if you have a friend who’s nick name is menace you best just staCy away
