Sweet Hour Of Prayer Written by William Walford in 1845
Sweet Chour of pray’r, sweet Fhour of pray’r, That Ccalls me from a Gworld of care,
And Cbids me at my FFa-ther’s throne, Make Call my wants and G7wishes Cknown…
In Csea-sons of Fdis-Ctress and grief, My Csoul has Fof-ten Cfound re-G7lief,
C (C7) F And oft es-caped the tempt-er’s snare, . . .
By Cthey re-turn, sweet Ghour of Cpray’r.
VERSE 2
Sweet Chour of pray’r, sweet Fhour of pray’r, Thy Cwings shall my pe-Gti-tion bear
To Chim whose truth and Ffaith-ful-ness En-Cgage the wait-ing G7soul to Cbless. . .
And Csince he Fbids me Gseek his face, Be-Clieve his Fword, and Ctrust his Ggrace, . . .
C (C7) F I’ll cast on him my ev-‘ry care,
And Cwait for thee, sweet Ghour of Cpray’r. VERSE 3
Sweet Chour of prayer! sweet Fhour of prayer! The Cjoys I feel, the Gbliss I share,
Of Cthose whose anxious sFpirits burn With Cstrong desires for G7thy retCurn!
With Csuch I Fhasten Gto the place Where CGod my FSavior Cshows His Gface,
C (C7) F And gladly take my station there,
And Cwait for thee, sweet Ghour of Cprayer! VERSE 4
Sweet Chour of prayer! sweet Fhour of prayer! May CI thy consolGation share,
Till, Cfrom Mount Pisgah’s loFfty height, I Cview my home and G7take my fliCght.
This Crobe of fFlesh I’ll Gdrop, and rise To Cseize the FeverlasCting Gprize,
C (C7) F And shout, while passing through the air,
“FarCewell, farewell, sweet Ghour of Cprayer!”
Interesting Note: The author, William Walford was blind. Little else is known of this man beyond his powerful hymn.
