AThCe DA EBlGues Scale contains the notes ANoCtiDceEb thEatG they are both similar except the A Blues scale has an addtional Eb. This is the basis of the Blues scale. It's simply a pentatonic with a flat fifth. To construct a Blues scale, simply find the flat fifth of the root note and ad it in. Here is an easy way to find the flat fifth of a note:
A5 E|-------------------------------------------------- B|-------------------------------------------------- G|-------------------------------------------------- D|-------------------------------------------------- A|--7----------------------------------------------- E|--5----------------------------------------------- Above is an A5 powerchord. See that it is a root (A) And afifth (E). The flat fifth is then obviously Eb. Then see the A minor Pentaoonic: E|----------------------------5--8--5--------------- B|----------------------5--8-----------8--5--------- G|-----------------5--7---------------------7--5---- D|------------5--7---------------------------------- A|-------5--7--------------------------------------- E|--5--8-------------------------------------------- E|-------------------------------------------------- B|-------------------------------------------------- G|-------------------------------------------------- D|--7--5-------------------------------------------- A|-------7--5--------------------------------------- E|------------8--5---------------------------------- To make the A Blues scale, simply add in the flat fifth: E|-----------------------------5--8--5-------------- B|------------------------5--8---------8--5--------- G|------------------5-7-8-------------------8-7-5--- D|-------------5--7--------------------------------- A|-------5-6-7-------------------------------------- E|--5--8-------------------------------------------- E|-------------------------------------------------- B|-------------------------------------------------- G|-------------------------------------------------- D|--7--5-------------------------------------------- A|-------7-6-5-------------------------------------- E|-------------8------------------------------------ From this, you can move this position around the fretboard.
