Tuning: E A D G B E
The other picking pattern tab is accurate, but there's an easier way to play it using barre chords. You shift from E (on the 12th fret) to A (5th fret) to C# (9th fret) to B (7th fret). For the uninitiated, these chords are: E A D G B e E: 12 14 14 13 12 12 A: 5 7 7 6 5 5 C#:9 11 11 10 9 9 B: 7 9 9 8 7 7 You shift between these chords and pick strings 6,3,4,6 on each chord. The only variation (optional) is playing the open E (0) on the E chord instead of at the 12th fret but either works. e|---------------------------------------------------| B|---------------------------------------------------| G|-----13-----------6----------10-----------8--------| D|--------14----------7-----------11----------9------| A|---------------------------------------------------| E|-0----------0--5-------5--9---------9--7-------7---| x9 This pattern is played twice as an intro and repeated seven times over the vocals until the line "Won't you take me to 24th floor?" (labeled 'Part 2') at which point you can start strumming. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- At this point start strumming the chord shapes you've been switching between: E A D G B e E: 12 14 14 13 12 12 A: 5 7 7 6 5 5 C#:9 11 11 10 9 9 B: 7 9 9 8 7 7 (Alternatively, you can play the E in the open position). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Part 2] E A C# B Won't you take me to the twenty-fourth floor? E A Where the air is clear and I can see C# B The sun is rising in the east E A I swing my feet recklessly C# B E A Over the railing on the balcony C# B E A As you kiss me goodbye C# B As you kiss me goodbye
