RUNNING GUN by Marty Robins
DI rode out of Kansas City,going/ sG7outh to Mexico
I was/ Arunning dodging danger,left theG7/ girl that I loved sDo
Far behind lay Kansas City and the/ G7past that I had earned
Twenty/ nAotches on my six gun marked the/ leG7ssons I had learnDed
Many tiG7mes I sold my fast gun for a/ Dplace to lay my head
Till the/ G7nights began to haunt me by the/D men that I lay deaAd
Couldn't/ Dstand it any longer with the/G7 life that I'd begun
So I/ Asaid good-bye to Jeannie and/ G7became a running Dgun
I rode into Amarillo as the sG7un sank in the west
My tAhoughts in Kansas City and the gG7irl that I love best D
As I smiled and kissed her gently and then tG7urned around to go
Said I'd sAend for her to meet me when I reG7ached old MexicoD
G7I had barely left the saddle and my fDoot just touched the ground
When a cG7old voice from the shadows told me nDot to turn around A
Said he nDew about my fast gun,new the prG7ice paid by the law
Challenged by aA bounty hunter,so I tuG7rned around to draw D
I Dknew someday I'd meet him for his hG7and like lightning flashed
My oAwn gun stayed in leather as his buG7llet tore it's patDh
As my strength was slowly fading,I could see hG7im walk away
And I kAnew that where I lie today,he toG7 must lie some day D
G7Now my strength is slowly fading and my eDyes are growing dim
And my tG7houghts return to Jeannie
and the Dhome that we had plannedA
Oh please Dtell her won't you mister
that she's sG7till the only one
But a wAoman's love is waisted when she G7loves a running gunD
Cheers!!!
