Tune low E down to C. Fretting hand: 2. Do it your way, you don't have to use your thumb the way John does it, just find comfortable positions for each chord. Picking hand: 3. Play all the notes using ONLY thumb and index finger, it creates something like a percussive feeling - exception: G note in the first bar - 8* on the B string - you can play it with your middle finger. 4. x - slap low E (C in this case) string or hit all the strings, sounds good both ways; you slap on the 2 and 4 beat (you omit 4 beat at the end of each phrase). 5. First slap (or hitting the strings) in the first bar is the most tricky - do it right after G (8 fret, B string) and before F (10 fret, G string) - also after you play this bar all the notes between the following slaps are equal so the distances between them are the same (should be easier to play once you get it right). This tab is based on youtube tutorials (I recommend Paul Davids' video on this) and live versions of John playing Neon on the acoustic guitar; it's not so difficult, just takes some time.
