^CAnd her dad always told us stories around dinner time ^GAnd there’s one he told when I was young that ^Dsticks out in my mind ^GHe said ten years after daddy taught me bout the birds and bees I was str^Emanded in Pearl Harbor fighting off the Japanese ^CWhen the kamikaze pilots came and dove in without warning ^GI was on the Arizona on a war^Dm December morning

^GI Remember When I w^Cas a younger ^Gman ^GWe were soldiers Fighting^C in a foreign^G land Now I’m^Am older ^DAnd it’s happening ^Gagain ^C

^GIt was hard to have forgiveness for the things they did that day ^EmAnd our President decided we should make their people pay So we d^Cropped on Nagasaki and we cut ‘em down to size And the o^Gne we dropped on Hiroshima le^Dft them vaporized ^GAnd I heard some Christian saying, what would Jesus do ^EmWhat if you were on the wrong side, would he point the gun at you And they r^Cead through every word of Matthew, Mark and Luke and John So th^Gey could see if killing was the s^Dide that Christ was on

^GAnd they separate the church and state And keep God out of school ^EmSo our governments can educate

^CBut people start to wonder if our politics make sense ^GWhen religion is our best excuse for nat^Dional defense ^GAnd when our citizens start saying that our wars are not ok ^EmAnd Washington keeps telling them God loves the USA ^CAnd they teach us history so we can learn from our mistakes ^GAnd this generation wants to know how m^Dany years it takes ^CTo change the way we treat our neighbors all across the land Cause if ^Gwe don’t change our hearts we ^Drepeat the past again
