this is my favourite song off flogging molly's fantastic new album FLOAT. it's quite easy to play once you got the chords. *UPDATED 27.03.2008* *thanks to Oneordinarylife for correcting the Interlude and Outro chords* *UPDATED 04.08.2008* Second Violin Riff and Electric Slide Riff updated* *UPDATED 08.08.2008* Intro/Verse Chords updated (Dm7 thing) and Second violin riff once again...* chords appearing in the song: Am7: x02213 Am6: x02212 Dm7: xx0211 Am : x02210 C : x30210 G : 3x0003 Dm : xx0231 F : xx3211 the rhytmn is always the same: exampel with Am7 chord: | | | | | | | | | e|-----3-----3-3-3-----3-----3-3-3-| B|-----1-----1-1-1-----1-----1-1-1-| G|-----2-----2-2-2-----2-----2-2-2-| D|-----2-----2-2-2-----2-----2-2-2-| A|-0---------------0---------------| E|---------------------------------| listen to the beginning of the song and you get the rhytmn easily. let everything ring throughout. INTRO: acoustic guitar plays the following chord progression: Am7 - Am6 - Dm7 - Am (if you watch the high e-string, you will notice that the note played there goes from a G to an F# to an F and finally, with the last chord of the intro, to an E. that is the melody, so try to emphasize the high strings in order to emphasize the melody.) VERSE 1: for the first verse, you have the same chord progression as for the intro.
Am7Drink away the rest of the day, Am6Wonder what my liver would say, Dm7Drink, It's All you Amcan.
Am7Blackened days With their bigger gales, Am6Blow in your parlor to discust the day, Dm7Listen that's all you Amcan.
CHORUS: same strumming rhytmn, other chords:
Ah but Cdon't, no don't sink the bGoat, That you bDmuilt, you built to keep aAmfloat, Ah no dCon't, no don't sink the bGoat, That you bDmuilt... Dm
in the background, very quiet, a accordian plays the same chords. VERSE 2: from now on, the acoustic guitar is overdubed by a second acoustic guitar, just if you to know..xD just play a little louder from there on ;)
Am7Sick and tired of what to say, Am6No one listens anyway, Dm7Sayin'... that's all you Amcan.
Am7Rambling years of lousy luck, Am6You miss the smell of burning turf, Dm7Dream... that's all you Amcan.
In Verse 2, there also the fiddle/violin comes in playing that melody (arranged for a guitar): Am7 Am6 Dm7 Am e|--------|--------|------------------|------------| B|--------|--------|------------------|------------| G|--------|--------|------------------|------------| D|-5------|-4------|-3----------5-3-0-|-2----------| x2 A|--------|--------|------------------|------------| E|--------|--------|------------------|------------| SECOND CHORUS: the second chorus is exactly the same as the first :) INSTRUMENTAL INTERLUDE: Am - C - Dm - Am x2 the violin plays (2x): Am C | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | e|---------------------------------|-----------------------------------| B|-----5---5-----6-565-------------|-------5---5-----6-565-------------| G|---------------------7---5-------|-----------------------7---5-------| D|-----------------------------7---|-------------------------------7---| A|---------------------------------|-----------------------------------| E|---------------------------------|-----------------------------------| Dm Am | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | e|---------------------------------|-----------------------------------| B|-----5---5-----6-565-------------|-----------------------------------| G|---------------------7---5---4---|-----------------------------------| D|---------------------------------|---7-----------7-------------------| A|---------------------------------|-----------------------------------| E|---------------------------------|-----------------------------------| (the 565 thing is a triplet.) VERSE 3: here, the fiddle plays the same "riff" as in the 2nd verse.
Am7Singled out for who you are, Am6Takes all types to judge a man, Dm7Feel... that's all you Amcan.
Am7Fill your sense with biggest ears, Am6Hide behind their own worst fears, Dm7Live... that's all you Amcan.
also, there is now an electric guitar playing: Am7 | Am6 | Dm7 | Am | Am7 | Am6 | Dm7 | Am | e|-------|-------|---------|-------|-------|-------|---------|----------| B|-------|-------|---------|-------|-------|-------|---------|----------| G|-------|-------|---------|-------|-------|-------|---------|----------| D|-5~~~--|-4~~~--|-3~~~--0-|-2~~~--|-5~~~--|-4~~~--|-3~~~--0-|-2~~~---2-| A|-------|-------|---------|-------|-------|-------|---------|----------| E|-------|-------|---------|-------|-------|-------|---------|----------| BRIDGE: instead of the chorus, there comes another part with following chords for the acoustic guitar: F - Am - F - Dm - Am
FIt's all you Amcan FIt's all you Dmcan... Amdo.
while the fiddle plays: F Am F Dm Am | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | e|-----------------|---------0-------|-----------------|---------|--------| B|-----------------|-----------------|-----------------|---------|--------| G|-45------5---5-4-|-----------------|-----------------|---------|--------| D|-----------------|-2-------------2-|-3-----------3-2-|-0-------|--------| A|-----------------|-----------------|-----------------|---------|-3------| E|-----------------|-----------------|-----------------|---------|--------| and the electric guitar goes: F Am F Dm Am | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | e|-------------|-------------|-------------|-------------|---------| B|----------1--|-------------|----------1--|----------3--|---------| G|-------2-----|-------2-----|-------2-----|-------2-----|---------| D|-3-----------|-2----------2|-3-----------|-0-----------|---------| A|-------------|-------------|-------------|-------------|-3-------| E|-------------|-------------|-------------|-------------|---------| next comes an INSTRUMENTAL INTERLUDE: Am - C - Dm - Am x2 the violin plays (2x): Am C | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | e|---------------------------------|-----------------------------------| B|-----5---5-----6-565-------------|-------5---5-----6-565-------------| G|---------------------7---5-------|-----------------------7---5-------| D|-----------------------------7---|-------------------------------7---| A|---------------------------------|-----------------------------------| E|---------------------------------|-----------------------------------| Dm Am | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | e|---------------------------------|-----------------------------------| B|-----5---5-----6-565-------------|-----------------------------------| G|---------------------7---5---4---|--------------(4---45------45--4)--| D|---------------------------------|---7-------------------------------| A|---------------------------------|-----------------------------------| E|---------------------------------|-----------------------------------| (part in (parathesis) only first time ;) ) [for later: i'll call the fiddle riff WITH the things in parathesis RIFF1 and the one the things in parathesis RIFF2] the electric guitar does something very very quiet...if you want to know it, download my powertab :) FOURTH AND LAST VERSE:
No Am7matter where i put my head, I Am6wake up feeling sound again, Dm7Breath... it's all you Amcan.
Am7Tomorrow smells of a lester cade, Am6Reach the bowls but glooming frame, Be Dm7thankful... that's all we Amcan.
the fiddle does nearly same thing as in the other verses and the electric guitar the acoustic guitars by playing the chords, too (once each, let it ring) LAST CHORUS:
Ah but Cdon't, no don't sink the Gboat, That you DmBuilt, you built to keep aAmfloat, Ah no Cdon't, no don't sink the Gboat, That you Dmbuilt... you built to keep aAmfloat. Ah no Cdon't, no don't sink the Gboat, That you Dmbuilt.Dm.. that you built to keep afloat.
the fiddle plays in the last chorus: C G Dm Am | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | e|-----------------|------------|------------|-----------------| B|---------------3-|------------|------------|-----------------| G|-5-----4-5---5---|-4----------|------------|-------------2-4-| D|-----------------|------------|------------|-----------------| A|-----------------|------------|-5-----5----|-3-------3-------| E|-----------------|------------|------------|-----------------| C G Dm Am | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | e|-----------------|------------|---------------|------------------| B|---------------3-|-0----------|---------------|------------------| G|-5-----4-5---5---|-----0------|---------------|---------2420-2-4-| 242 and D|-----------------|-------0----|---------------|------------------| 575 are A|-----------------|------------|-5-----5--575--|-3----------------| triplets E|-----------------|------------|-------------7-|------------------| C G Dm Dm | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | e|-----------------|------------|---------------|------------------| B|---------------3-|-0----------|---------------|------------------| G|-5-----4-5---5---|-----0------|---------------|------------------| D|-----------------|-------0----|---------------|------------------| A|-----------------|------------|-5-----5--575--|-5-------5--------| E|-----------------|------------|-------------7-|------------------| the electric guitar again just substitutes with the given chords. INSTRUMENTAL INTERLUDE: Am - C - Dm - Am x2 fiddle: exactly the same as in the second interlude OUTRO: the acoustic and electric guitars go on with Am - C - Dm - Am till the end.
a ripe old aAmge a ripe old Cage with fiddle playing RIFF1 a ripe old Dmage that's what I Amam
a ripe old Amage a ripe old Cage with fiddle playing RIFF2 a ripe old Dmage just doing the best I Amcan
then once more RIFF1, while a second violin plays the following: Am C Dm Am e|-17-----------|-15-----------|-10-------12--|-------------| B|--------------|-----------10-|--------------|-13----------| G|--------------|--------------|--------------|-------------| D|--------------|--------------|--------------|-------------| A|--------------|--------------|--------------|-------------| E|--------------|--------------|--------------|-------------| it repeats till the end, too. *
a ripe old Amage a ripe old Cage with fiddle playing RIFF1 a ripe old Dmage that's what I Amam
a ripe old Amage a ripe old Cage with fiddle playing RIFF2 a ripe old Dmage just doing the best I Amcan
* from there on, a second electric guitar (mild distortion) comes in playing the slide riff: Am C Dm Am e|---------------|------------|------------|-----------| B|-8/10--------8\|-5----------|-3-------/6\|-1---------| G|---------------|------------|------------|-----------| D|---------------|------------|------------|-----------| A|---------------|------------|------------|-----------| E|---------------|------------|------------|-----------| repeat that till the end too. two times more the chord progression Am - C - Dm - Am and it ends on Am :) have fun! **Oneordinarylife corrected the Interlude/Ourto Chords: C instead of G. Still, G sounds too xD**
