*********** "BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAINS" by FLEET FOXES off their 2008 self-titled album *********** tabbed by Jon Bash basher000000@hotmail.com *TUNING* Double drop-D (DADGBD (low and high E both tuned down 1 whole step)) with a capo on the 6th fret *CHORD FORMS* All chords are in relation to capo. I'm kind of fudging the names on some of the chords for convenience's sake (namely the Dm13, Am11, and FM13; I didn't know what else to call those ones without giving them ridiculously long names), but it's close enough that you get the point. And of course, this was done by ear and by watching live videos, and I didn't nitpick a WHOLE lot, so there may be slight variations between this and the actual way it is played. Just a disclaimer for you. Some of these fingerings can be kind of tricky. Experiment with whatever is comfortable for you and allows for quick chord changes. Am7(E)-000213 Dm13---000002 Am7(F#)-003210 AM7----5x3333 DM7----004224 Gadd9--x32010 F-----x13333 Am11---x02010 FM13----33x210 ~*~ The strumming pattern throughout is pretty basic. I think the slow intro (and outro) is actually on mandolin, but you can easily play it on guitar if you wanna play the song solo, maybe strumming softly with your thumb, then switch to a pick when it gets fast. As a brief note to avoid confusion, I put the chords to play *under* the corresponding lyrics, *not* over. ~*~ *INTRO* Am7(a) Dm13 Am7(F#) Dm13 (x2) Light up with me my dear, Am7(a) Dm13 Am7(F#) Dm13 Light up. Am7(a) Dm13 Am7(F#) Dm13 Am7(a) Dm13 Am7(F#) Dm13 Un------der stormy night, tell no-----body. Am7(E) Dm13 Am7(F#) Dm13 Am7(E) Dm13 Am7(F#) Dm13 Am7(a) ~*~ Then things speed up for the verse and continue the same Dm chord pattern ~*~ **VERSE 1** Am7(a) Dm13 Am7(F#) Dm13 x2 My brother where do you intend to go tonight? Am7(a) Dm13 Am7(F#) Dm13 I heard that you missed your connecting flight, Am7(a) Dm13 Am7(F#) Dm13 To the blue ridge mountains, over near Tennessee. AM7 Am7(a) Dm13 Am7(F#) Dm13 **VERSE 2** You're ever welcome with me any time you like, Am7(a) Dm13 Am7(F#) Dm13 Let's drive to the country side, leave behind some green-eyed look-a-likes, Am7(a) Dm13 Am7(F#) Dm13 AM7 So no one gets worried, no. Am7(a) Dm13 Am7(F#) Dm13 So no one gets worried, no. AM7 Am7(a) Dm13 Am7(F#) Dm13 **INTERLUDE** But Sean don't get callous,
I'm AM7sure it'll be fAm7ine. I loAM7ve you, I love youAm7, OhGadd9 brother of Fmine. Am11
~*~ Then a Bb chord is strummed for awhile while the piano and mandolin do their thing ~*~ **REFRAIN** In the quivering forest,
Where tFhe shivering dog rests, I will do Gadd9it grandfather, Wilt toF wood and end. And the FM13river got frozen, And the Fhole got snowed in, And nearGadd9 the moon glow ride, TillF the morning light. FM13
Terrible am I child?
FEven if you don'Gadd9t mind, FIn the quivering foGadd9rest, Where tFhe shivering dog rests, I will do Gadd9it grandfather, Wilt toF wood and end. And the FM13river got frozen, And the Fhole got snowed in, And nearGadd9 the moon glow ride, TillF the morning light. FM13

~*~ Then it plays the slow intro again ~*~ And that's it! Definitely not your typical folk song, but once you get over the weird chords it's not too hard. Good luck! This took a lot of work, so you best appreciate it! It's a beautiful song (as all of Fleet Foxes' songs are) and is very fun to play once you get it down. -Jon Bash basher000000@hotmail.com
