--------------------------------------------------------------------------- Long Time Gone – The Everly Brothers --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tabbed by: maguri Tuning: Standard The Everly Brothers Long Time Gone (1958) (Frank Hartford / Tex Ritter) I tabbed out two versions here: 1. Studio version from "Songs Our Daddy Taught Us" 2. Live version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbKeXEwsPjw) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Studio version from "Songs Our Daddy Taught Us" --------------------------------------------------------------------------- It’s difficult to hear the guitar(s ?) clearly. I finally came up with this here, which is at least close, playable and sounds good: “RIFF” capo 2nd fret
D1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + e|----5-2-----3-2-|----5-2-----3---| B|3-3-3-3---3-3-3-|3-3-3-3---3-3---| G|2-2-2---0-0-----|2-2-2---0-0-0---| D|0-------0-------|0-------0-------| A|-------h2-------|-------h2-------| E|----------------|----------------|
I use a regular D-shape and use the pinky to play the short note on the 5th fret, e-string (one gets used to it very quickly). This “RIFF” is played throughout the song with minor variations whenever there is a D chord. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- capo 2nd fret INTRO | D | % | % | % | VERSE 1

OUTRO | D | % | % | % | (repeat “RIFF” and fade) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Live version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbKeXEwsPjw --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Phil plays regular chords here. The 2nd guitar (Don) uses a capo 2nd fret and plays a slim version of the “riff” from the studio version during intro and outro, the interludes and generally whenever there is an E in the verses. During the rest of the song Don just doubles Phil’s chords playing a different inversion. The C chord from the studio version is left out and some other changes are added. “RIFF” capo 2nd fret
D1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + e|2-------2-------| B|3-------3-------| G|2-------0-------| D|0-------0-------| A|--------2-------| E|----------------|
These are the chords for the capoed guitar (see studio version above): E = D (play the “riff” above) B = A A = G --------------------------------------------------------------------------- INTRO | E A | % | % | E | [You cheated …] VERSE 1 E | E A | E You cheated me and made me lonely
