Boy From Tupelo - Live
by Emmylou Harris
Tabbed by Aitch27
This has been a popular song in Emmylou Harris' repetoire over the last 15 years and her
live performances seemingly favour playing the song a semitone higher, and thus in a
different key, than the originally recorded version (see my tab of the original version).
Whilst playing in this higher key of C# (or of course D flat) she has played this in two
positions by use of the options the guitar presents with the Capo.
Version 1 is how she played the song on the 'live' iTunes Album 'Hickory Wind' whilst
Version 2 appears to have become her preferred way of now playing this song in concerts,
which does gives a richer and brighter sound particularly on the Gibson SJ-500 she favours.

C#You don't love me, this I F#know
Don't need a bible to tell C#me so
I hung around a little too F#long
I was good but now I'm C#gone
Like the F#buffalo
That boy from C#Tupelo
Any way the G#wind can blow
That's where I'm gonna C#go
I'll be gone like a F#five and dime
It'll be the C#perfect crime
Just ask the boy from G#Tupelo
He's the king and he C#ought to know
C#UmmF#mm, UmmC#mm, UmmG#mm, UmmC#mm
The shoulder I've been F#leaning on
Is the coldest place I've ever C#known
There's nothing left for me roundF# here
Looks like it's time to C#disappear
Like the F#buffalo
That boy from C#Tupelo
That old wall down in G#Jericho
Maybelle on the C#radio
I'll be gone like the F#five and dime
It'll be the perfect C#crime
Just ask the boy from G#Tupelo
He's the king and he C#ought to know
C#UmmF#mm, UmmC#mm, UmmG#mm, UmmC#mm
You don't love me, this F#I know
Don't need a bible to tell me C#so
It's a shame and a F#sin
Everything I could have C#been to you
Your last chance F#Texaco
Your sweetheart of the C#rodeo
A Juliet to your G#Romeo
The border you cross into C#Mexico
I'll never understand F#why or how
Oh baby, its too late C#now
Just ask the boy from G#Tupelo
He's the king and he C#ought to know
C#UmmF#mm, UmmC#mm, UmmG#mm, UmmC#mm
