Tuning: E A D G
STANDARD TURNING: EADG
Artist: Elliott Smith
Song: 2:45AM
Album: Either/Or
Been playing this song a lot lately, one of my current favorites, but there's a lack of bass-tabs for it.
I was messing around on my guitar when I figured out how to play the bassline of the part
where the rest of the instrumentation kicks in.
It follows the same chords as the guitar does, just played differently, obviously.
It's a pretty simple song now that I've kind of dissected it, but it works so well.
Elliott Smith was a genius (RIP)
G|---------------------------------------------------------------|
D|---------------------------------------------------------------|
A|---------------------------------------------------------------|
E|0-0-0-8-8-8-3--------------------------------------------------|
Now this is the main riff (The open E can also be played an octave lower (12th),
or on the 7th fret of the A-String
but it doesn't sound as good. Playing it on the 12th can be convenient for returning from the melody back to
the riff, but it really isn't that much of a hassle)
As for the melody that follows it
The guitar part has three different variants of this melody, but the other two are obsolete at this part of
the song. Of course, you could probably easily figure out how they are played based off this tab, though.
G|---------------------------------------------------------------|
D|---------------------------------------------------------------|
A|---------------------------------------------------------------|
E|3-5-7-8-10-12-13-----------------------------------------------|
Then you play the main riff again
Repeat this 'till song fades (to black) out
Enjoy!
