CYou don't have to Gcall me Waylon CJennings And Cyou don't have to Gcall me ChaCrley Pride And Fyou don't have to Gcall me Merle CHaggard anyAmmore D7 Even though you're on my fightin' Gside
And I'll Fhang around as Glong as you will Clet me and I Fnever mindGed standing in the Crain But Fyou don't have to Gcall me darlinC', darAmlin' You Cnever even Gcalled me by my Cname
Well I've Cheard my name a Gfew times in your Cphonebook (Hello? Hello?) And I've Cseen it on Gsigns where I've Cplayed But the Fonly time I Gknow I'll hearC David Allan AmCoe D7 Is when Jesus has his final judgment Gday
So I'll Fhang around as Glong as you will Clet me and I Fnever mindGed standing in the Crain But Fyou don't have to Gcall me darlinC', darAmlin' You Cnever even Gcalled me by my Cname
(Spoken) Well a good friend of mine named Steve Goodman wrote that song. And he told me it was the perfect country and western song. Well I wrote him back a letter and told him: It was not the perfect country and western song, Because he hadn't said anything at all about mama, Or trains, or trucks, or prison, or gettin' drunk! Well, he sat down and wrote another verse to this song, and he sent it to me. After reading it, I realized That my friend had written the perfect country and western song. And I felt obliged to include it on this album. The last verse goes like this here:
Well I was Cdrunk the day my Gmom got out of Cprison And I Cwent to pick her Gup in the Crain But beFfore I could Gget to the station in my Cpickup Amtruck D7 She got runned over by a damned old Gtrain
And I'll Fhang around as Glong as you will Clet me and I Fnever mindGed standing in the Crain But Fyou don't have to Gcall me darlinC', darAmlin' You Cnever even Gcalled me Well I Cwonder why you don't Amcall me, C G F (C G C) Why don't you ever call me by my name?
