Tuning: D G C F A D
This is tuned a wholestep down to D and played with these chords. So if you want it to sound exactly like the recording does tune your guitar down. Otherwise I suggest playing it in these chords positions no matter where you put your capo because that makes all the ornamentation between chords much easier. This is the general bassline that they're playing below the chords. Try to place the chords at the same time. It changes a little with the movement to the C than the D but it's all the same idea. d|---------------------------------------------------------------| A|---------------------------------------------------------------| F|---------------------------------------------------------------| C|-----0--0------0---0---4-2-0-----------------------------------| G|-----------0-2---0---0-------3-2-0-----------------------------| D|-2h3--3--3-------------------------3---------------------------| [Verse 1: Colter Wall]
Well, it was wGay high up in the Sierry Petes Where the yellow pines grow tDall
Rusty Diggs and Sandy Sam
Had a round-up camp last faGll They hGad their ponies and their running irons And maybe a dog or tCwo And they 'lDowed they'd brand every lop-eared calf That came within their viGew
[Verse 2: Colter Wall]
Well mGany a lop-eared dogie If he didn't hush up by dDay
Had his long ears whittled and his old hide scorched
In a most artistic wGay Then says Rusty Diggs to Sandy Sam As he throwed his seago dCown "I'm tDired of cowboy-ography "And I figures I'll go to toGwn"

They stGarts her in at the Kentucky Bar At the head of the Whisky RDow
And they winds her up at the Depot House
And forty drinks belGow Then he wiGnds her up and they turns her 'round And they goes her the other wCay TDell you the Lord-forsaken truth Them boys got drunk that dGay
[Verse 4: Blake Berglund]
Well, thGey was a-headin' back to camp And a-packin' a mighty good loDad
Who should they meet but the Devil himself
Come prancin' down the rGoad? And the DeGvil he said, "You cowboy skunks "You better go hunt your hCole "'Cause ID've come up from the Hell's rim rock "To gather in your sGouls" Says RGusty Jiggs to the Devil "Though I know we're tDight
"No devil ever took no cowpunch
"Without one kind of a fGight"
[Verse 5: Corb Lund]
So RGusty Jiggs punched a hole in his rope He swang it straight and trDue
He lassoed it onto the devil's horns
And he's takin' his dallies tGoo Now Sandy Sam was a reata man With his gut line coiled up nCeat So he shDakes her out and he builds him a loop And he lassoed the Devil's hind feGet
[Verse 6: Corb Lund]
They strGetched him out, they tailed him down While the irons was a-gettin' hDot
They cropped and swallow-forked his ears
And they branded him up a lGot Well they pruned him up with a dehorning saw Tied knots in his tail for a jCoke Then thDey rode off and left him there Necked up to a black-jack oGak
[Outro: Colter Wall & Corb Lund] So if you're ever up in the Sierry Petes
And you hear one hell of a waDil Know it's that Devil a-bellowin' around About them knots in his taGil You'lDl know it's that Devil a-bellowin' around About them knots in his taGil
