Goin' Back (Goffin King)
Although I love Dusty's and the Byrds' versions, this is my take on Carole's
version from the Writer Album (1969). The La La Las were done with James Taylor.
The key of G major is as on the record. Acknowledgement to other UG versions for the lyrics.
Verse 1
I Gthink I'm goin' back to the Dm7/Gthings I learned so well in my youtGh
I Gthink I'm returning to those daDm7/Gys when I was young enough to know the tGruth
Now there Em7are no games to only Bm7pass the time
No more eEm7lectric trains, no more Gtrees to climb
But thinkAm7ing young and growing oAm7/Dlder is no Gsin
And Am7I can play the gaAm7/Dme of life to wGin
Verse 2
I can recall a time when I wasn't ashamed to reach out to a friend
Now I think I've got a lot more than just my toys to lend
Now there's more to do than watch my sailboat glide
But every day can be a magic carpet ride
A little bit of courage is all we lack
So catch me if you can, I'm goin' back
GLa la la la la la Dm7/Gla la la la la
GLa la la la la la Dm7/Gla la la
Now there's Em7more to do than watch my Bm7sailboat glide
But every Em7day can be a magic Gcarpet ride
A Am7little bit of coAm7/Durage is all we lGack
So Am7catch me if you Am7/Dcan, I'm goin' baGck
And so on
