Me aCnd My best frEmiend Jim started our own band When AmI was fifteFen living in Deutschland. Didn't Cmatter thEmat we could hardly play Came up wAmith a crazyF name, called the band "Queen UK" I playeCd the guitarEm, he played drums Our paAmrents told uFs one day we'd be bums AndC everydaEmy we'd go over to his parents house And iAmn the basFement we'd play as hard and loud As we Ccould geEmt it. It drove his mom mad But it Amnever seemFed to bother his drunk dad. We Cwrote fivEme or six, songs or so We Amplayed them Fat the high school talent show We bleCw the shit Emup. The girls went crazy. We lookAmed so coolF. They called us 'baby.' And Cafter thatEm man, we had it made. The Amnormal lifFe was later-ade.
INTERLUDE: C, Em, Am, F... VERSE 2:
WellC I moved Emto Austin, he moved to LA after living in Seattle. I joiAmned a funk banFd, he got all into heavy metal. It Cwas a wildEm time. I did a lot of blotter. It waAms like Fsome bad episode of "Welcome Back Kotter". I went oCut to LEmA to visit him. But he waAms all mesFsed up playing in some shitty band. SnoCrting heroEmin. He had like ten tatoos. We smokedAm some serioFus kind, drank a ton of booze. We Cjoked arEmound alot. We'd always say We've Amcome so faFr since the good ol' days.
INTERLUDE: C, Em, Am, F... VERSE 3:
It Cwas a blur Embut, I don't really remember much. Just gladAm to get the heFll out, I never liked LA too much. AustCin was Emmore laid back, more like my kind of town. People Amkickin Fit, not so tightly wound. My bandsC kept breakiEmng up, like they always do. I kept Amgetting by,F and pulling through. I Cgot a phonEme call from Jim one night in ninety-eight He dAmidn't soundF so good he said 'I need a break'. He saiCd can I Emcome to stay for a week or so. I said Am'That'd bFe cool. No problem bro.' But I Cnever Emspoke to him again after that. I Amgot a call Ffrom this guy in Jim's band Aftermath. He saidC that JimEm had died sometime last week or so. In his Amapartment, soFme kind of overdose. The poliCce couldn't fEmind his folks, and maybe did I know How to Amget a hold of tFhem and I said I did and so TheyC called hisEm parents up and it was shitty but, I went tAmo the Ffuneral and I was all fucked up. And IC felt responEmsible in some weird ol' way. But therAme was nothinFg I could do, there was nothing I could say.
INTERLUDE: C, Em, Am, F (x2)... VERSE 4:
That'Cs the wayEm it goes when fate is king. You Amcan't teFll the world how to do its thing. You canC just hold onEm tight, let it take you for a ride. And Ammaybe you migFht make it to the other side. Well iCn the end IEm guess, it doesn't matter so. I Amguess I'll Ftell you everything I know now.
