Song: War of 1812
Artist: Arrogant Worms
Our teacher taught us this for history class...little did she know, she'd never hear
the end of it! I've heard it covered many other times by different bands, but it's most
famous version is by The Arrogant Worms. Although I think if you look closer, it was
actually written by a band called "Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie." (I just can't keep
track of all
these CBC Radio comedy troupes...)
So here it is. A really simple and fun song (that's not meant to offend anybody) in standard tuning. Enjoy!
Chords: D x00232, A x02220, G 320033
Intro:
Oh, Dcome back, proud Canadians
To Abefore you had TV,
No Ghockey night in Canada,
There Dwas no ACBC (Oh, my God!).
In D1812, Madison was mad,
He was the Apresident, you know
Well, he Gthought he'd tell the British Dwhere they ought to Ago
He Dthought he'd invade Canada,
He Athought that he was tough
InsGtead we went to Washington....
And Dburned down Aall his Dstuff!
Chorus:
And the White House Gburned, burned, burned,
And Dwe're the one's that Adid it!
It Gburned, burned, burned,
While the Dpresident ran and Acried.
It Gburned, burned, burned,
And Dthings were very Ahistorical.
AnAd the Americans ran and cried like a bunch of little babies
Waa waa waah!
In the GWar of A181D2!
Verse:
DNow some hillbillies from Kentucky,
ADressed in green and red,
GLeft home to fight in Canada,
DBut they returned home Adead
DIt's the only war the Yankees lost, Aexcept for Vietnam
And Galso the Alamo... Dand the Bay of... Aham.
DThe loser was America,
AThe winner was ourselves,
GSo join right in and gloat about the DWar of A181D2
Repeat Chorus
Bridge:
In D1812, we were Ajust sittin' around,
Mindin' our own business, puttin' Dcrops into the ground.
We heard the soldiers coming and we Adidn't like that sound.
So we took a boat to Washington and Dburned it to the ground.
Oh... we... Dfired our guns, but the Yankees kept-a comingA,
DThere wasn't quite as many as there was a while agoA.
DWe fired once more and the Yankees started runninAg,
DDown the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico, oh, oh....
They Aran through the snow and they Dran through the forest,
They Aran through the bushes where the Dbeavers wouldn't go.
They Aran so fast, they Dforgot to take their culture,
ABack to America, and DGulf and Texaco...oh...oh...oh...
So, Dif you go to Washington, its Abuildings clean and nice,
GBring a pack of matches, and we'll Dburn the AWhite House Dtwice!
Repeat Chorus
