Wintersun is a Finnish metal band formed in 2003 by multi-instrumentalist Jari Mäenpää, originally as a side project while he was still with the band Ensiferum. Wintersun is known for blending elements of melodic death metal, power metal, symphonic metal, and folk metal, often featuring epic compositions with complex arrangements and themes of time, nature, and mythology. Their self-titled debut album Wintersun (2004) received critical acclaim. After a long production period, their second album, Time I, was released in 2012, showcasing a more symphonic and layered sound. The band is also known for its ambitious project, Time II, which is still unreleased due to production challenges. Wintersun is praised for its technical musicianship and epic songwriting, with Jari Mäenpää playing a central creative role in writing, recording, and producing the band's music.
