I read online that Odetta favoured the Open D tuning, so I figured that was the best place to start when figuring this out. Once you're tuned to Open D it's really rather simple. You can also wing it with Standard tuning, it just doesn't sound quite as full and lovely. Also to make the A chord way easier simply play it barred on the 7th fret.
