Tuning: E A D G B E
Key of E minor (for improv purposes) Standard tuning of EADGBE This contains the tab for the studio version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZguAEoNpZw With some tidbits from the live version because ur worth it xx: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NxV_nqD1N0 Chords for the bulk of the song: E|-----------------------------| B|---5------8------7------7----| G|---5------8------7------7----| D|---5------9------7------7----| A|-----------------------------| E|-----------------------------| which I think are C major, Baug5 and D major (not sure about this last one, it seems to function as a tonic of some kind but the song's in E? hmu if you figure out what's going on here, see below tab for a discussion) Riffs (in approximate order) The x's here are muted above the 12th fret, you can swap out the hammer on for a slide if you'd like! E|------------------------------------------| B|--10h12p10.-x-xxx-x-x-10h12p10.-x-xxx-x-x-| G|------------------------------------------| D|------------------------------------------| A|------------------------------------------| E|------------------------------------------| In the live version they also use E|------------| B|--11h12p11.-| G|------------| D|------------| A|------------| E|------------| In the background you start slowly getting: E|------------------------------------------| B|------------------------------------------| G|-----------12~~~~~~~-11~~~~~~~------------| D|--14~~~~~~~-------------------------------| A|------------------------------------------| E|------------------------------------------| Technically it's piano, but the riff is: E|-------------------------------------------| B|-------------------------------------------| G|---------------------------------/7--------| D|-------7--7h9p7----------------7----10-9-7-| A|--7-10---------10p7---x3--7-10-------------| E|-------------------------------------------| Pre-solo (this might be being played by the bass actually?): E|------------------------------| B|------------------------------| G|------------------------------| D|----9~~~---7~~~---4~~~~-------| A|--7------7------7-------7~~~~-| x2 E|------------------------------| Solo: Kudos to taitaih1234 for some of this, there are a couple of places where we've transcribed it differently. Check his out for alternate positioning/riffs. There's a lot of dotted rhythms here which I've tried to show, basically hang the notes with dots a hair longer E|------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| B|------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| G|-------------------------15p14p12---------12h14------------------12----11-12-15-11~~~~~-11.-----------| D|--7p5-----5-----------------------14---14-------13.-----------13----14----------14b16~~----12---------| A|------7p5---7.--5------------------------------------14----14---------------------------------14.-12--| E|-----------------5\-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------| E|------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| B|------------------------------------------------------12---------------------------------------15-----| G|----------------------------------------11-12.-11--------14.-12-11.---------------------16--------14.-| D|--------------12-----------14--------14-----------14.---------------12------------12-------17.--------| A|-----10/12-14----14-12-14----------------------------------------------14.--12-14---------------------| E|--12--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| E|------------/14-15-17-14------------19\-------15-14.---------------| B|-17-15------------------15-----15----------12--------12\-----------| G|-------16-------------------14-------------------------------------| D|-------------------------------------------------------------------| A|-------------------------------------------------------------------| E|-------------------------------------------------------------------| E|-----------12-14.-15-14.-12-------------------------------------------------------------------------| B|--------15-----------------15.-12-----12------------------------------------------------------------| G|--12/16---------------------------14.----12.-14-----------------------------------------------------| D|------------------------------------------------12.-14------------10h12-9---------------------------| A|--------------------------------------------------------12.-10------------12--10--------/9----9-----| E|---------------------------------------------------------------12----------------12--------12---12--| if you want to do improv use E aeolian sharpening the 7th for a grace note to add a bit of jazz (this is what's happening at the start of the solo) Outro riffs: E|-----------------------------------------| B|-----------------------------------------| G|----------------------------------7-9----| D|--9----7--5--7-9---x3--9----7--5---------| A|--7~~~~7~~7~~7~7~~~----7~~~~7~~7~(7~7~~)-| E|-----------------------------------------| This one is used in the solo also: E|-----------------------------------------| B|-------------------12--------------------| G|-----11-12.-11--------14.-12-11.---------| D|--14-----------14.---------------12------| A|------------------------------------14.--| E|-----------------------------------------| Outro chords used in live version (not 100% sure about the second one): E|--12--12--10--8---7----------| B|--13--17--12--10--8----------| G|-----------------------------| D|-----------------------------| A|-----------------------------| E|-----------------------------| Legend: p - pull off h - hammer on \ or / - slide down or up ~ - hold the note/let it ring, not vibrato but hey vibrato if you want, it'd sound good in this song x - muted note/accoustic x3 - repeat three times (not muted note then 3rd fret) () - optional About the key, so perhaps the easiest way of thinking about it is as a song which is played in G major but the aeolian mode is used for improv purposes. This makes more sense of the chords - you instead get a 4-3aug-5 progression as opposed to 6maj-5aug-7maj(!). To say that the D-major is the tonic is perhaps a bit strong, however it's the next major on the circle of fifths, so if you view the Baug5 as a Gaug5 in second inversion instead you could argue that the progression is just a repeated modulation between G and D? This is backed up by how the solo doesn't rule out E dorian completely, so incorporating that in your improv might work too? Have a play, and if anything works particularly well let us know with a comment. :)
